Redesigning a room in your home can give you the change you’ve been
yearning for. Are you bored at looking at the same design in the
room(s) in your home? Has any of the rooms looked exactly the same for
more than three years? Do you have a room in your home that isn’t being
used by the family? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then
you should give your room a makeover using home redesigning techniques.

Home redesigning
is not about any demolition or creation of blueprint to remodel a room
in your home. Basically the concept consists of re-arranging your
existing furniture, artwork and accessories to give a room in your home
a new look and character. Home redesign also known as interior
redesign, is the new trend in interior decorating. The best thing is,
the redesign project is usually completed in one day! By applying a few
redesign techniques, you can makeover a room in your home without
spending any money!

The first step is to find the dramatic element that draws your immediate attention.
This is usually called a focal point. It may be a fireplace, book case, window
with a beautiful view, interesting artwork piece, or a beautifully decorated bed. If
you have a fireplace then usually it is the focal point. Make sure you choose one
focal point to arrange your furniture and lighting around.
The next step in your room redesign is the placement of the furniture.

The objective of the furniture arrangement is to compliment the focal
point. Place your largest furniture pieces in the room first. Your
seating in the room like sofa, love-seat, and chairs should be pulled
away from walls so that you create an intimate conversational area. In
addition, having the furniture away from the walls will create
flexibility and functionality. You can also use a sofa to divide up
space in a room. Allow 14″ to 18″ between a coffee table and the front
of the sofa. If you watch TV in the room, the distance between the
television and the seating should be three times the size of the
screen. For instance if you have a 32” tv, your seating should be 96”
away. After the furniture is placed, you should have traffic lanes of
at least 2 feet.

Once the furniture is positioned, bring in your rugs, end tables and lighting.
If you notice any of these items don’t compliment your furniture, simply
remove it and/or look around the rest of your home for things to add. Check each
room, closet, or even garage to see if there is anything you can use for the room
you’re making over. You might find something you never thought about adding from
another room. This is what makes home redesigning fantastic! You don’t
buy anything new, you just use what you already own.

The last step to your room makeover is adding artwork and accessories. These items
should help pull things together, as well as, add character and style
to the room. Find pieces around your house you really like that match
your color scheme for the new room. Bring in photos and artwork from
other rooms. Remove items you thought about getting rid of, and bring
in all new accessories. When trying to decide whether you should add an
item to the new room, ask yourself these questions- Do I love it? and
does it make me happy and evoke a positive memory? You want the
redesign to bring back life and excitement to the room. Accessories
look good in odd numbers such as three and five. Odd numbers happens to
appeal more to the eye. Small accessories look better in a group, but
make sure not to bring in too many because it will create clutter. If
you can’t find enough accessories, you can make simple accessories with
empty bottles and vases filled with colored water, rocks, or sand.

Home redesign provides instant results! Now that you have the basic steps,
go make-over each room in your home one day at a time. Don’t allow your
rooms in your home to become stagnate and boring. Change things up to
make them vibrant again! That’s the idea of home redesign,
re-arranging thing differently and redecorating what you already poses.
Most importantly, the way your furniture is arranged influences the
mood in a room, therefore spruce them up with the art of home redesign.
